ATLANTA -- Maybe it wasn't the most scientific approach, but Atlanta came out with bragging rights after the company Honesty Tea put Atlantans through an honesty challenge.
Honest Tea went to 27 cities around America, all of the biggest cities. They set up an Honest Tea stand and put out racks of tea for a dollar a bottle.
You had to pay on an honor system, by putting a dollar in a box.
Thousands upon thousands of bottles of tea were sold, and the one city came out on top.
Honest Tea CEO Seth Goldman said, "This year, 94% of Americans were honest. The top city this year was Atlanta at a 100% honesty."
Only in one city did people take money out of the box. That happened in Washington D.C.

Honest Tea Tests Honesty in Miami

The nation’s top-selling organic bottled tea company Honest Tea is at it again – using signature brews to test the honesty of cities across America. This year Miami will be the first city to kick off their 2015 National Honesty Index social experiment with a kiosk somewhere in the city on Friday.
The idea is simple – an unmanned booth will be set up in an undisclosed location selling tea for $1 on the honor system. Honest Tea will track the number of people who pay for and steal the tea to determine how honest citizens of Miami – and Americans across the country – really are.
Last year Honolulu was ranked the most honest city in the U.S., and overall women were found to be slightly more honest than men. For 2014’s survey, 95 percent of Americans were deemed honest, up from 92 percent the previous year. Miami ranked 28 with a 95 percent honesty rate, right on par with the national average. Once all the experiments for 2015 are completed, the honesty information will be released in its annual report.
The pop-up store will be open from 9:30 am until 5:30 pm. If you happen to spot the kiosk today, do the right thing – pay a dollar, indulge in a tasty thirst-quencher, and get our city in the news for finally doing some good.

Honest Tea Adds Watermelon Lemonade to “Summer Refreshers” Line

via Bevnet

(Bethesda, Md.)—April 22, 2015Honest Tea is excited to announce the addition of Watermelon Lemonade to its, organic “Summer Refresher” lineup. Watermelon Lemonade joins Original Lemonade, Mango Lemonade, Mint Limeade and Half & Half Lemonade & Tea exclusively at Whole Foods Market® locations starting May 2015.  The Summer Refreshers are sweetened with Fair Trade Certified™ sugar and are 70 calories per 8 fl. oz. serving.
“Watermelon is the most consumed melon in the U.S.*, so we knew it would be the perfect addition to our Summer Refresher line,” said co-founder and TeaEO Seth Goldman.   “The notes of ripe watermelon, and even a hint of rind, make our Watermelon Lemonade ideal for any picnic, party or playground.”
Honest Tea’s sugar purchases for the Summer Refresher line will benefit fair trade sugar farmers in Paraguay. The fair trade premiums help pay for community development projects chosen by farmers such as farming equipment, healthcare infrastructure, schools , and more.  Honest Tea was the first company to bring to market a Fair Trade Certified bottled tea in 2003 and in 2011 transitioned all of its teas to fair trade certification.
“Honest Tea shares our values and passion for high quality, responsibly-sourced ingredients, so partnering with them to develop the Summer Refreshers – from concept to trial to label and production – was a natural fit,” said Dwight Richmond, global grocery purchasing coordinator for Whole Foods Market. “We’re excited to offer our shoppers a brand new line of lemonades and teas made with both fair trade tea and fair trade sugar, so they can feel even better about enjoying their favorite summer flavors.”
Honest Tea’s limited-edition Summer Refreshers, which first debuted last summer, will be available in 32 fl. oz. glass bottles through the summer for $2.49 per bottle.

A mouth-watering, fresh and natural re-branding for Honest Tea

via The Dieline

Honest Tea

A mouth-watering, fresh and natural re-branding for Honest Tea by Beardwood & Co.. Honest Tea is known and loved by an army of health-conscious, natural tea drinkers, but non-users saw the brand as too serious and less flavorful than the bevy of new tea competitors coming to market. Hence, the opportunity of appealing to a broader range of consumers- while staying true to its roots- became the key driver in the brief from Coca-Cola (owner of Honest Tea) to Beardwood & Co.
“We redrew the logo in a friendlier font to help the brand feel more approachable, and embellished it with a small leaf sign-off. We also moved the tagline to the top of the bottle for greater emphasis: "Just a Tad Sweet" has always been the Honest Tea reason-for-being that differentiates the brand from its sugar-loaded competition. Hyper-real imagery highlights the organic, fresh ingredients and adds mouth-watering appetite appeal. Elements of the imagery break out of the T shape to add dimensionality and dynamism.” comments the agency.

The final design grabs attention on shelf, highlights flavor appeal and differentiation, and reinforces the brand mantras. The consistent T shape with two leaves is an iconic element across
all products, reinforcing the natural essence of the brand.

Honest® Tea Refreshes Glass-Bottle Tea Line to Enhance Connection to Brand’s Heritage & Mission

via Yahoo!

Honest Tea, the top-selling organic bottled tea in the U.S., is refreshing its glass-bottled tea beverage line to deepen and broaden the brand’s mission and impact.
  • Fair Trade Certified™ Sugar:All of the varieties sweetened with organic sugar will now be sweetened with Fair Trade Certified, organic sugar to complement the organic and fair trade teas already being used.
  • 1% for the Planet: The labels will feature the product line’s new membership in “1% for the Planet,” which commits Honest Tea to contribute the equivalent of at least one percent of the product line’s annual sales to organizations working toward positive environmental change.
  • New label graphics: Honest Tea’s glass-bottled labels are being updated to bring to life the images and inspiration behind each tea variety, as well as link more closely to the broader Honest beverage portfolio. Some of the major changes include highlighting the visuals showcased in the brand’s iconic “T” and introducing a new brand logo that will be used across all Honest beverages.
  • New variety: Radiant Raspberry Tea – Fair Trade Certified, organic black tea from Southern India, is mixed with organic raspberry juice, blackberry leaves, and other ingredients, and sweetened with Fair Trade Certified organic cane sugar.
“Our glass-bottled line continues to be the top-selling bottled tea in the natural channel, and even as we’re having one of our best sales years to date, we felt now was the time to double-down on our mission,” said co-founder & TeaEO Seth Goldman.
Fair trade premiums for the organic cane sugar help fund community development projects in Paraguay chosen by farmers, including healthcare services, farming equipment, higher-quality schools, and microloans. Honest Tea was the first company to introduce a Fair Trade Certified bottled tea in 2003, and all of Honest Tea’s tea varieties have used Fair Trade Certified tea leaves since 2011. In anticipation of the move to Fair Trade Certified organic sugar, Goldman went to Paraguay earlier this year to meet with Fair Trade sugar farmers. (View video here)
In conjunction with Honest Tea’s partnership with “1% for the Planet,” the organization’s logo now appears prominently on the back panel. In 2013, non-profit organizations benefiting from Honest Tea’s contributions include Fair Trade USA, National Parks Foundation, FoodCorps, Bethesda Green, and Trees For The Future, among others.
“We are thrilled to make the switch to Fair Trade Certified sugar and sign on with 1% for the Planet,” said Goldman. “To mark the occasion, for the first time in 16 years, we (nervously) took steps to refresh the look of our much-loved glass line. We surprised ourselves with the new label design – a fun, eye-catching way to expand on our story.”
Inspired by the brand’s first bottles from 1998, the labels were designed in-house using the iconic “T” imagery as a starting point. The art was developed in collaboration with an oil painter and expanded around the label for an artistic interpretation of each variety’s origin and spirit. The colorful frames surround a new off-white parchment background.
Radiant Raspberry Tea, the newest “Just a Tad Sweet®” beverage, is 60 calories per bottle and will be available at natural and specialty grocers throughout the country starting in October 2014.

Honest Tea Becomes First Coke Brand in K-Cups

via Bevnet

It’s iced tea in a literal sense, a drink that represents The Coca-Cola Co.’s initial foray into at-home crafted beverages.
Honest Tea is the first Coke-owned brand to develop a line of K-Cups for use in Keurig’s hot brewing unit. Intended to be brewed over ice and served cold, the launch of Honest Tea’s new single-serve “pods” comes months before the expected debut of Keurig’s cold beverage system, one that will enable consumers to prepare a variety of cold drinks, including carbonated ones, at home.
Honest Tea K-Cups
The Keurig Cold system is the basis for Coke’s acquisition of a 10 percent stake in Keurig in February (raised to 16 percent in May), in which the two companies agreed to a 10-year deal to create a new line of K-Cup products based on Coke’s global brand portfolio.
“As we began to collaborate with The Coca‑Cola Company on the development of their brands for our Keurig Cold system, the opportunity to incorporate certain Coca-Cola brands, like Honest Tea, into our Brew Over Ice selections for our Keurig hot brewing system became an exciting possibility,” Mark Wood, Senior Vice President, Global Hot Systems at Keurig, said in a statement. “Whether hot or cold, adding great brands like Honest Tea to the Keurig system is a part of our ongoing mission to provide consumers with unparalleled choice and variety.”
Honest’s K-Cup line will initially come in two varieties — unsweetened Just Green and Just Black iced teas – and join Keurig’s “Brew Over Ice” collection, which are “specially crafted” for use with Keurig’s hot brewing unit. The products will be available for sale on Keurig.com beginning tomorrow.

How Honest Is New York City? Honest Tea Is Going To Find Out

Via CBSNewYork

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Drink companyHonest Tea’s “2014 Honesty Index” is taking a look at how honest New Yorkers are.
The company is conducting what it called a “social experiment” in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. from now through mid-August.
The experiment came to New York City’s Foley Square on Saturday with an unmanned kiosk offering the bottled drinks next to a clear box asking people to pay $1 for each item, buying them on the “honor system.”
The kiosk was available between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The company said information including the gender and hair color of those who bought or took the drinks was collected as the Honesty Index attempts to uncover which U.S. cities and citizens are the most honest.
Honest Tea “TeaEO” Seth Goldman told 1010 WINSlast year’s results showed New York City was not the most dishonest city in the country.
“Last year, Washington D.C. turned out to be the least honest city. Whereas most of the country was above 90 percent, Washington D.C. came at 80 percent,” Goldman said. “So you never know what’s gonna happen.”
Goldman did say though that one borough of New York City in particular had a higher rate of sticky fingers than the rest.
“In general New York has been, I would say, positive,” Goldman said. “One year we did it in all the five boroughs and Brooklyn did not turn out to be too honest (laughs) so that was a little disappointing.”
Honest Tea said all proceeds collected through the experiment will be donated to charity. The charity of choice will be announced on Aug. 19, the same day that the results are released.

Honest Tea Reaches $112 Million in 2013 Sales; Logo Gets a Refresh(er)

Buoyed by sustained growth of its PET products and a 56 percent leap in year-over-year sales of its Honest Kids juice pouches, Seth Goldman, Honest Tea’s co-founder and TeaEO, told BevNET that the company’s first quarter numbers for 2014 are accelerating at a remarkable rate for a mature brand, and that he expects sustained growth throughout the year.
Yet while some might heed to the adage, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Goldman, describes the new logo is more of an “evolution rather than a revolution.” Viewing the refresh as a timely way to take advantage of accelerated sales growth of individual product lines and retail channels, the new look will give greater uniformity to the broad range of Honest Tea products, Goldman said. Founded in 1998, Honest Tea added a line of juice drinks in 2004, and in subsequent years launched Honest Kids as well a brand of zero-calorie sodas called Honest Fizz.
“It’s not about taking the brand in a fundamentally different direction,” Goldman said. “It’s about how do make it a little more accessible and clear about who we are and what we’re doing. And how do we unify the business. We have these different parts of the business, and how do we keep it coherent across all lines where everything’s benefiting everything else.”
The new logo appears on Honest’s new “Refreshers,” a line of lemonade and limeade drinks which the company developed in close coordination with Whole Foods. In positioning and appearance, the new beverages bear some resemblance to similar offerings from Santa Cruz Organic. Packaged in 32 oz. glass bottles, the line comes in five varieties — Original Lemonade, Berry Hibiscus Lemonade, Mango Lemonade, Mint Limeade, and a “Half & Half” Lemonade and Tea — and contain 70 calories and 16-18 grams of Fair Trade sugar, depending on variety, per 8 oz. serving,. The drinks will launch this month nationally in Whole Foods, where the line will be sold exclusively through the end of 2014 with a price of $2.49 per bottle.
Goldman said that Honest Tea’s 16 oz. glass bottle offerings will be next up for the logo refresh, while its 16.9 PET bottles will get the update next year, likely in conjunction with the launch of a newly designed mold for the package. While the Refresher line is the first of Honest Tea’s to include Fair Trade sugar, Goldman said that he hopes to introduce the ingredient to the rest of the company’s products upon the growth and development of supply lines. Goldman recently returned from Paraguay, where the sugar is sourced, to get a better sense of the supply chain and how Fair Trade premiums are being used by farmers to pay for community development projects.
He noted that Honest Tea and Whole Foods had both been eager to use Fair Trade sugar in a new line of beverages, and he views the Refresher line as leading a potentially new wave of products using the ingredient, while educating consumers about Honest’s deep involvement with its suppliers.
“One of our jobs as a company is to help connect consumers more closely to the Earth, and how these products come to them,” Goldman said. “Being able to show people what’s involved in the growing of sugar and the harvesting of sugar, not just the plant, but the communities themselves… is something that I hope will enrich our consumers so that they, when enjoying these products, will understand this is more than just a typical lemonade.”
And while he called the Refresher drinks “sweeter than anything we’ve sold before,” he noted that the “a front-of-the-store lemonade line has a certain expectation around taste, and so we needed to deliver on that.”
“It definitely has fewer calories than the front-of-the-store lemonades that Whole Foods has traditionally offered, I’d say significantly less, but, on the other hand, more than what we’ve sold under the Honest banner,” Goldman said.
That banner might soon encompass a new line of food products. When asked if Honest Tea, which owns the trademark for “Honest Foods,” is planning to launch a snack line this year, Goldman would only offer that “it’s too early to say.”
