Sprite Wants Snapchat Users to Get More Friends Via Its Cans

via AdWeek

The soda brand is the latest to dive into a fun Snapchat effort. Sprite
Sprite is inviting Snapchat users in Brazil to put their Snapcodes on millions of its soda cans. Snapcodes are QR codes—two-dimensional barcodes scannable on smartphones—that are designed to help people on the mobile-social platform gain more friends.
The effort, dubbed RFRSH Na Lata (meaning "refresh on the can" when translated from Portuguese), is being pushed with a pair of online videos (one of which appears at the bottom of this post). Consumers can submit their Snapcodes via a microsite through Nov. 27, and the accounts chosen to be featured by the Coca-Cola-owned soda brand will be disclosed on Dec. 3.
Sprite's play underscores how brands are flocking to Snapchat, which has garnered 100 million monthly users even though it's only a few years old. What marketers love about the mobile app is that most of its users are from the coveted millennial or Gen Z demographics.
When explaining the campaign, Coca-Cola Brazil's agency, CUBOCC, cited a study from Acision revealing that 60 percent of Brazilian smartphone users prefer messaging apps for communication.
To kick-start the effort, 15 Snapchat users with big social followings have already gotten their Snapcodes printed on cans. According to CUBOCC, those folks have, on average, tripled their number of friends on the platform in the past two weeks.

Pepsi Max's NFL Vending Machine Asks Brits to Show American-Style Enthusiasm

via Creativity Online

More Brits are getting into American football these days -- but can they match the enthusiasm of American fans? Pepsi Max decided to experiment.
To support the NFL International Series matches at London's Wembley late last month, the brand, an NFL sponsor, created a vending machine where fans paid with enthusiasm -- encouraging the normally more reserved Brits to let go in American-style passion for NFL. The "Oomph-o-meter" spoke to fans entering the event and encouraged them to jump up and down, shout, and do high-fives and chest bumps and gave out free Pepsi Max to those who performed best. Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO created the stunt, and film.

Coke moves to Colour Changing Labels in Follow-up to ‘Colour Your Summer’ Campaign

via Mumbrella

Coke is kicking off it’s summer marketing campaign with another innovation – temperature sensitive colour changing labels – as it continues to build on the ‘Come Alive’ theme.

The latest effort is a development of the ‘Colour Your Summer’ initiative which saw Coke market the soft drink in a variety of colours, departing from the traditional Coke red last summer – as it looked to reconnect with younger consumers.
Coke will also use image recognition technology to create an experiential element to the campaign as part of the multi-million dollar push.
“Consumers will be able take a snap of their Coke products, when they have come alive with colour, and win unique experiences, content and more. This year the image recognition technology will be able to recognise ‘Come Alive’ colour packs across the entire trademark – Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero and Coke Life, as well as recognise packs that feature in our campaign advertising,” Coca-Cola Amatil said in its press release.
The brand will team with Universal Music Brand Partnerships Division to identify and recruit a number of influential artists this summer including Troye Sivan, Cody Simpson and Tigerlily.
Consumers will then have the chance to win tickets to exclusive events.
Influencers in the teen space will also be recruited to support Coke’s messaging across social media.

Citrus-packing “Pepsi White” Coming to Japan for the Winter Snow Season

via Rocket News

When it comes to limited-edition beverages, Pepsi continues to rise to the occasion year after year. And just when we thought we’d seen the last of Pepsi’s seasonal releases for 2015 with their mystery-flavoured Halloween range, they go and announce a special Christmas present, with the release of a new Pepsi White Cola for this year’s winter season.
On sale from 8 December for 151 yen (US$1.25), the Pepsi White Cola features silver-patterned packaging with gold-lettering, which, they tell us, is perfect for the “party season”.

The limited-edition beverage is the latest in a long line of flavours that have stepped away from using traditional, dark Cola-coloured hues. There was a green, ice cucumber variation back in 2007, followed by Blue Hawaii the following year, and even a Pepsi Pink in 2014.

A white-coloured, yoghurt-flavoured Pepsi was actually released in 2008, and was then re-released four years later in a mikan (Japanese mandarin) flavour.
▼ Snowmen everywhere are crying for not being re-released with this year’s White version.

It’s been three long years since we’ve seen white cola on the shelves in Japan, and this time round we’re being promised a more refreshing citrus flavour. With mikan having a more subtle zing than most citrus fruits, we’re hoping that means this one will pack a real orangey punch. A white cola that tastes like an orange? That’s definitely something to cure the winter blues this season!

Parisian football club Paris Saint-Germain is the latest to take on the iconic Coca Cola bottle, joining the brand for collaborative takes on the Coke and Coke Zero packaging.
